Library Books

We really picked out some BEAUTIFUL books this past trip... I am sad about returning some of them, and am adding hte ones that were a little too old for ira to our wishlist.

Im just going to share the few that are going back in the morning.

Aesop's Fables
retold by tom paxton

Hansel and Gretel
grimm. illustrated by Dorothee Duntz

I Spy Two Eyes: Numbers in Art

Kokopelli Drum In Belly

Gail E. Haley

The Tale of Rabbit and Coyote

raw zucchini?

I have been told to try it several times.... I had such a hard time conceptualizing it... so I avoided trying it.

Until today.

We just got a bunch of zucchini at the farm on saturday so I figured I would try.

I searched around and was inspired by the city cook

I forgot to take a picture, which is a shame, it was actually quite pretty.

3 small-medium zucchini- peeled
3 ears fresh roasted sweet corn
juice of 1/2 a small lemon
3 tablespoons of EVOO
shredded asiago cheese-to taste

shave the zucchini into long super thin strips, then cut them into half inch segments. Cut the corn from the cob and add it to zucchini. juice the lemon into a cup and add EVOO...whisk together, add to veggies. salt and pepper to taste. I let this sit in the fridge for about a 1/2 hour to an hour to let the flavors marinate. Once ready to serve, shred asiago over and mix together.

Right before my husband took his first bite, he said, "Jen I really do not like raw zucchini, Ive had it before"

I was a little discouraged.... until he ate two bowls...standing at the counter.

As a side, this would maybe satisfy 3-4 people... as part of the main dish or to share, I would double it.

Its Back!

I decided to pull the coffee table out of the office today. We put it in there when liv started to crawl and then just really enjoyed the great explanse of the living room without it.

Recently, however, the need for a coffee table of sorts has become more and more necessary as my belly is expanding at an alarming rate (21weeks!!!!) and I have a little bit of difficulty trying to color and draw lying on the floor.

Of course, we could always use the craft room.... but the a/c does NOT reach back there as well and my craft table is quite high and the kids are up and down and up and down and for ira thats fine... but that means I am lifting liv up and down and up and down.....plus, the afternoon light is perfect.

so its back... and we are off to enjoy a bit of craft time.....

operation storage revamp.....

was officially a go this weekend.

Its a long journey... jareds mother passed away when he was military and he had to simply box up a lot of stuff to deal with when he could be in town again. Well, we have officially been "in town" for 3 years, but with him finishing up his degree, it was never really the right time. Now that babe #3 is coming, we need more room! So it begins!

the kids had fun, it was so hot.... jared did most of the work while the girls and I sat on a picnic blanket in the shade of the carport and played. Soon enough, we will be able to use the storage rooms for our own storage.

lost and found.....
liv desperately wishing her feet reached the petals......

poor desert child playing in rocks instead of grass ;)

christmas in july? thats what she was thinking......

so very excited

My husband came home from work holding this beauty the other day. The pictures do not do it justice, because it was dark out and i didnt want to wait and get pretty pics in the morning.

Its from a local waldorf family that he works for... so cool. Ira has really really been wanting to get a highchair for her babies, and I really wanted one that matched her kitchen we got a while back, but just never seemed to have the extra money for a nice one, and I didnt want to spend the money on a cheap plastic one that wouldnt hold up to this tribe of children my husband and I are making ;)

Thank you waldorf faeries for keeping us in your acts- even though we shopped toys r us this bday instead of nova naturals! Ira is currently waxing on a star wars obsession, that I am hoping this new addition will help tame ;)

paint

Ira received a belated birthday present in the mail and it was a huge hit. A nightlight cover to paint and a keepsake wooden box to decorate. We pulled out an old craft project never finished to have liv paint along side her sister... since these days she only wants to do what ira is doing.

cave dwellers.....

at least that is what I like to refer to us as ;)

not only is it hot outside... but the sun is intense... and we are pale pale people who burn incredibly easy. So we tend to hibernate inside during the most intense parts of the day.

we have taken to baking daily. We are currently trying to perfect our blueberry muffin recipe. At this point, I am simply the swedish chef adding this and that.. but they are good.

Ira makes all sorts of forts and houses for her hundreds of animals and friends.

Lots of lego building....

good times.

Tuesday Musing

Ira can snap. and she can snap well.

Anyone care to share when they learned????

I didnt master snapping in even the most gracious definition until I was maybe 5? jared swears he was older. Now- she can snap songs and its loud and really cool. We kept telling her that she needed to practice and lots of people cant snap until they are older.

I think she does this stuff just to prove us wrong.

Then, this morning... as I was having a cup of coffee she came in and sat down next to me. I think I should preface this by saying we recently have been visiting the international wildlife museum, which is a natural history type museum, with taxidermy animals, birds, etc. Hunting collections i presume.. turned into a museum....very informative, very educational, very sad..... so the topic of dead animals has been a topic of discussion A LOT lately.

"Mom", she says... very business like.

"Mom, I think that its awful that people hunt animals in africa. But even though those people kill the lions... they have cubs.... and the cubs grow up and become lions and have cubs. So even if people still try to kill animals... there will always be a cycle. There will always be cubs, right mama? like an ecosystem. there are cycles."

i swear to you.... I just sat there. I had no words. she is four. just turned four two weeks ago. I felt like saying, "wanna color?"

her thoughts seem so heavy.

Instead, I said, "yes, there is a cycle. The cycle was in place before us... usually with the lions at the top.. They eat things like antelope and zebra, and the antelope and zebra eat the grass. Before man killed lion they didnt have any other natural predators..." and I turned it into an impromptu food chain discussion, then we did a craft... posted here...

It just amazes me though, the retention of information that we discuss casually and the ability to really understand, comprehend and then build on those concepts.

fun friday

today, ira did interpretive star wars dancing. She turned r2d2, 3cpo & jedi movements into dances.... :)

liv learned how to pretend to be frankenstein, and how to spin in circles..... oh, and she said "cheese" for the first time.

and we ran in the rain....

a really productive day.

oh and we did read some really great books that we picked up at our last library trip....

our very new favourite that I cannot BELIEVE we haven't read before is

the frogs and toes all sang

ten little fingers and ten little toes

turk and runt

a sweet smell of roses

a sweet smell of roses is such a lovely, lovely, inspiring civil rights story, with beautiful artwork. made me cry.
