Winter solstice 2010

We live in a small space with no place to light a fire and no room for a full spiral... But I think we did a good job improvising!

The girls watched a little bear episode about winter solstice and we read a few books and online stories.

We walked our half spiral and lit our candles.

We lit the lanterns for the snow angels and snow faeries to find their way...

And hung our cranberry garland for them to eat if they get hungry.

After everyone went to bed, Jared and I awaited the lunar eclipse.
Horrible picture! It was totally red! It was the first time we have seen anything like this as adults. Jared and I both remember a summer as children when we watched it (separately).

We even woke up ira.

She said"its red. Im cold. Put me back in bed".

Today, We worked on our season/nature table. Reciting some of Rudolph Steiner/waldorf verses-

Advent week one-
The first light of Advent is the light of stones.
Stones that live in crystals, seashells, and bones.

The second light of Advent is the light of plants.
Roots, stem, leaf, flower and fruit by whom we live and grow.

The third light of Advent is the light of beasts.
Animals of farm, field, forest, air and sea.
All await the birth in greatest and in least.

The fourth light of Advent is the light of humankind.
The light of love, the light of thought, to give and to understand.

Ira helped build this nativity scene with her toys. She was inspired by this book

She pays much attention to detail. Using two dolls in dresses as Mary and joseph after seeing this page

Ira checked the cranberry garland and was disappointed to see that no snow angels or squirrels had eaten any.

Apparently the local squirrel didn't get the memo.

Tree Trimming!

Ira wanted to decorate the tree all on her own, so I put on the lights with her helping and then she totally took over!

She did a great job! granted that MOST of the ornaments are on one particular area.... but she spread them out a bit afterwards.

Tree shopping!

Unfortunately, here in tucson, there arent large groves of trees and snow to go scouting in... so we just went to home depot- since there was a sale and all. It was freezing (for us) and starting to storm.... but Ira was NOT letting us rush her.

"daddy, put it down, we are NOT getting that one.... I'll choose"

live was quite content to hang out in the car- the walking in the cold through puddles- not her thing. I ended up having to carry her the whole way. Here she is happily back in the car while daddy loaded up the tree. (she is wearing the first hat I ever crocheted for ira last year!)

six & six

the lovely stephanie at ordinary life magic tagged me for this six/six game!

"Open the 6th picture folder on your computer, open the 6th photo and blog it. Write something about it. Then tag 6 more people to do the same."

this was almost one year ago, feb 21, 2008.... we went on a short hike with some friends to find this sun circle. i was 7 months pregnant and had to scale a sand embankment... which was hilarious all on its own.

i slipped a little, and irs'a little hand grabbed me... this story is still told by ira and it goes like this, "one time, we were climbing a mountain and momma fell, but i caught her and saved her! im a reeeaaally good climber"
its usually told right after we ask her not to climb something dangerous!
i hereby tag

Im planning on calling a couple of my neighbours tomorrow for theirs ;)
