Winter solstice 2010

We live in a small space with no place to light a fire and no room for a full spiral... But I think we did a good job improvising!

The girls watched a little bear episode about winter solstice and we read a few books and online stories.

We walked our half spiral and lit our candles.

We lit the lanterns for the snow angels and snow faeries to find their way...

And hung our cranberry garland for them to eat if they get hungry.

After everyone went to bed, Jared and I awaited the lunar eclipse.
Horrible picture! It was totally red! It was the first time we have seen anything like this as adults. Jared and I both remember a summer as children when we watched it (separately).

We even woke up ira.

She said"its red. Im cold. Put me back in bed".

Today, We worked on our season/nature table. Reciting some of Rudolph Steiner/waldorf verses-

Advent week one-
The first light of Advent is the light of stones.
Stones that live in crystals, seashells, and bones.

The second light of Advent is the light of plants.
Roots, stem, leaf, flower and fruit by whom we live and grow.

The third light of Advent is the light of beasts.
Animals of farm, field, forest, air and sea.
All await the birth in greatest and in least.

The fourth light of Advent is the light of humankind.
The light of love, the light of thought, to give and to understand.

Ira helped build this nativity scene with her toys. She was inspired by this book

She pays much attention to detail. Using two dolls in dresses as Mary and joseph after seeing this page

Ira checked the cranberry garland and was disappointed to see that no snow angels or squirrels had eaten any.

Apparently the local squirrel didn't get the memo.

Today we drove to the beach

To see the stormy waves. When we pulled off near a river Togo explore- there was no rain. As we stepped from the car- THUNDER and LIGHTENING! I didn't know those things existed here! We stayed in the car.

No fun pictures.

We drove to the redwoods... And it was too dark & raining too hard to find Banana slugs. :(

No fun pictures.

We spent some time in Felton, where I would live in a heartbeat... Then we went to ikea again to pick up the stuff we left behind on accident.
Picked up a snack and Emers broke out in hives! My kids apparently inherited all of my sensitivities to foods.

No fun pictures.

We hope to return to our regular programming tomorrow.

We hung up paper snowflakes and sparkly trees and snowmen.

We found organic candy canes and the girls made new ornaments!

Pictures tomorrow!

Ikea!

We woke up to rain, there was a small break and we took our morning walk and jumped in puddles.

Jared is out of school for semester break, so we went to pick up some stuff we've been needing.
Emers kept knocking my easel over trying to paint like liv. So we bought some easels from ikea. $15!!! A steal.

Rockstar Ira!

She laid flowers for us on our seats. We were instructed to throw them at her feet when she was done.

Then we celebrated with hot cocoa.

Friday

New ornaments...

Family that draws together.....

RAIN!!!!

Ira and I threaded two bags of cranberries. Took FOREVER, but much healthier and better for the earth than the plastic stuff at target!

Jared thinks it makes an awesome necklace.

Ira and liv then made this totally plastic and foam fake garland from a kit from target.... Ya know, to offset my cranberries.

Then they hung it up in the playroom...

Thursday!

Faerie farm play...

Ira drew this picture of her and liv...

We read some library books... We fell in love with this one!

It's all hand sewn hand dyed wool and wooden figures/collections from nature. So precious. Going on the "to acquire" list!

Took a night stroll around town....

Leaves!

We are putting our library cards to work!!! Three trips to library in one week!

Lego truck building...

Walks...long walks. Emers and Liv are hilarious in the stroller together. Emers is just now getting to the point where I can take him out of the carrier for longer periods.

We found a huge pile of leaves..

This look is priceless.

They also found a new friend. They ended up playing with him for a while in the leaves.

This is ira's silly walkin' face.

An this is why I usually bring out the triple stroller for long walks. Eventually Ira gets tired.

Liv fed Emers her sauerkraut. My babies love their fermented foods!
