craft time
During the "chicken pox shut in" week, i read more blogs than is probably healthy! i was inspired by this and this from over at the crafty crow.....
we started painting the acorns by hand, but when liv dropped an acorn into the paint, ira said, "look! she found a faster way!" and so she had ;)

we didn't really have a plan for these cuties.... but after our trip to the farm today for pumpkins... we decided on a haunted pumpkin patch....

Face paint crayons....
who knew they could inspire so many hours of fun!
Ira got a new jewel at the craft store.... and she wanted to try out the new face crayons....

liv- happy to be photographed.... as always.

Presenting.... "Diamond Faerie Princess"

Then when Liv wanted to play faerie... ira switched it up to her other kitty face....

Ira even colored me up a bit....

Harvest Festival
we went down to Agua Linda Farm for their harvest festival!
It was very fun, although there is justsomethign a little weird about wearing tank tops and flip flops to pick pumpkins.... there was live music- which Ira really got into- and a petting zoo, hay maze, pony & horse rides..... fun day.

jared trying to fit too much in the wagon.

kids working hard for their pumpkins...

maze

cheater :P

liv kept saying, "here doggie!"

Now- coming up you are about to see my heart on a horse.... ira and I are very close. we are always together... in fact, I have not left her anywhere, have not been more than 30 feet from her in over two years. Everyone says that this is not healthy, she will never learn to be on her own... I always give her a choice- to come or stay.... to go with daddy or stay with me...
well, i was thinking either jared or I would need to walk next to the pony, then... the woman said ira was going to be on the horse... so I told jared to walk with her because he is taller.
ira says,"no- I am going alone."
jared and I- "oh, ok!"
then, we stood there in complete shock as she walked away with the woman- had the woman lift her onto the horse and then held on and rode the horse all. by. her. self.

chocolate candy ghosts
as a child, we made candy chocolates every easter- it was an all day affair. My mom would set up 6 double boilers using all the countertop electric skillets the family could find... and then we would make candy eggs, bunnies, jesus hands, bibles and lollipops... lol. yes.... jesus hands. We were very very religious.
so I couldn't find ANY molds this halloween... I had waited way too long, I guess. So I pulled out some parchment paper and did my best- irawas impressed... so thats all that matters.
THe unfortunate thing is.... this candy- WOAH! tooooooo sweet. none of us can even eat them without getting check cramps or sore teeth. UGH. so gross.
so they were given away.

This is Ira convinced that there was an easier way.....

Library Books- 10/14-10/22
This trip yielded much better results! Which was super good seeing how ira got the chicken pox two days after our trip!
some of the highlights~
Winter is the Warmest Season ( i thought this one was super cute)
Grumpy Cat
Tortuga in Trouble
Mañana Iguana
Old Mother Hubbard
there were quite a few others.... but the two that REALLY really seemed to interest ira were~
Can You See What I See? On a Scary Scary Night (ispy book)
Uno's Garden
We are doing the weekly run tomorrow, im really hoping for something different... the more we read, the more and more every book seems to have the exact same premise.... at least to me....

Ira's Chicken Pox Day #4
GOOOOOOD MOOOORNING.....
she was feeling better and we were so thankful for it! She slept through the whole night without crying. [sigh of relief]
I found the Toy-A-Day blog and set to making her some fun stuff.....

Later in the evening, we made some very non traditional sugar cookies.....

It all evolved very fluidly... we read a gingerbread story... then ira wanted to make gingerbread cookies, but she didnt want them spicy.... so we picked sugar cookies.... but we didnt have enough sugar.... so I improvised.
the recipe:
3 Cups Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
less than 1 Cup turbinado sugar granules
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp finely ground sea salt
1 cup butter softened
2 eggs beaten
4 tbl half and half
2 tsp vanilla
sift dry ingredients together set bowl aside, put remaining wet ingredients into mixing bowl, blend on low until well combined. Mix in dry ingredients slowly, cup by cup. mold into ball with hands and put in fridge for at least an hour.
Roll out small grapefruit sized ball of dough to 1/4 inch thickness ( i do this between two sheets of parchment)
Bake at 400 degrees for 3-4 minutes.
they are super chewy and taste like a really sweet pancake... guests would not recognize them as sugar cookies. lol
but my husband and kids and I? well, we thought they were pretty fabulous....
